Why Leaders Need to Reproduce Other Leaders
A leader’s true effectiveness can only be proven when he is able to develop other leaders from his team.
A good leader guides his team towards the direction of their success through a vision; a better leader leaves great lessons for his people for later benefits as they reached their goal; while, the best leader produces other leaders from the team, besides doing all these.
The effectiveness of a leader depends on his ability to create other leaders, because a true leader is never selfish. He shares his experiences, imparts his knowledge, and teaches things other people don’t know. He does all these without asking for anything in return…because he knows that what he will be able to come up with are treasures that are worth his time and sacrifice.
There are many leaders who see their people as competitors - that when the team members become better persons, they will become better than, or outdo, the leaders. This is a mistaken belief of most leaders and is a big reason why they don’t go as far as producing more leaders.
What should be seen here is that the team members are cooperators, and not competitors. In fact, these people who are potential future leaders, help carry the load. They lighten the burdens of the current leader. With such big and many responsibilities, a leader tends to divide the tasks among his people – giving the more difficult ones to those he thinks know how to handle them well. And with potential leaders at hand, he is assured that these tasks are being done according to the team’s benefit.
Also, a leader who produces other leaders multiplies his influence, making other people believe in and follow him enthusiastically. His organization will continue to build and grow, as there are other people who help him make it prosper.
If you are a leader, you cannot do everything alone. You need confidants, colleagues, associates, etc. If you really want to be a successful leader, you must develop other leaders around you. You must establish a team that has a vision similar to yours, acts the same way you do, and believes that you can make it to the top. A true leader sees the big picture, but he needs other leaders to help turn his mental picture into reality.
Usual leaders aspire for more followers around them. They believe that the key to leadership is gaining more followers that they can just order around. Few leaders surround themselves with other leaders that they can ask for help and assistance. And these leaders are the true and effective ones.
