Fantastic Methods to Sleep Like a Baby

There are people who are in drastic need of sleep but just can’t seem to will their bodies to go to dreamland. They toss and turn until the sheets come off their beds, and they get the bitter realization that counting sheep doesn’t actually work.

Insomnia doesn’t just mean not being able to sleep a wink. It also means waking up lots of times during the night, or getting the feeling that you didn’t get a good night’s sleep, or waking up too early in the morning and not being able to get back to sleep.

Almost half of America’s population suffers from insomnia, and practically everyone has experienced it at least once in their lifetime. Some suffer this disorder for years. Insomnia is something you have to be concerned about because it greatly affects your life and those around you. It makes you cranky and moody, makes you lose your concentration, and in effect makes you lose friends. It could also weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to illnesses. So if you’re suffering from sleep deprivation, you’ve got to take steps to cure it ASAP.

You’ve got to diagnose what kind of insomnia you’re suffering from. You don’t need a doctor to do this for you. You can do it yourself.
Insomnia is caused by a lot of factors.

Psychological factors include depression, sadness, or anything that gives you negative feelings. These may arise from traumatic events that you couldn’t get out of your mind (like embarrassing incidents, financial problems, or death of a loved one). Stress, anxiety, excitement, and nervousness may contribute to insomnia.

Physical impediments may also cause insomnia. You have to see your doctor to determine if you’re suffering from any illness. Heart problems or medication may cause sleeplessness.

The food that you intake may also be a factor contributing to insomnia. Don’t take anything that has caffeine in it. This includes coffee, chocolate, and tea. Check the food you eat and trash those that contain caffeine. The same goes with alcohol and nicotine. Like caffeine, these are stimulants that help to keep your mind awake. Alcohol does help induce sleep, but it doesn’t give you a GOOD night’s sleep because of certain compounds it contains that keep some organs (like your stomach) active.

Don’t engage in any exercise too close to bedtime because it increases heart rate, akin to making you excited, and in effect making you unable to fall asleep.

Make sure that everything is nice and quiet by the time you get to bed. Find a bed that you’re comfortable sleeping in. Turn out the lights to help you sleep better.

Stop looking at that clock! You will get stressed out if you do, and it could keep you awake even longer. It would be better if the clock is nowhere near your bed. If you need an alarm clock, turn its face away from you.

Some people actually find some sounds to be helpful in lulling them to sleep. A droning sound that goes on and on, like the whirring of the electric fan or the air conditioner, can help filter out irritating sounds like the noise of horns honking in the night.

Set your room to a temperature that makes you comfortable enough to fall asleep.

Decide on your sleeping schedule and stick with it. Even if you have work and it entails different shifts, stick to a schedule that you could follow most of the time.

Don’t take too many naps because it reduces the likelihood of you falling asleep right away at night.

Don’t keep on complaining about not being able to sleep. It just makes you stressed out. Relax. Have a nice warm bath to relax and soothe your body. Try herbal remedies. You could also attend therapy sessions that help relax your body, like meditation. Sex is another great cure. The main purpose is for you to relax enough to fall asleep.

These are some tips to get rid of insomnia. You shouldn’t ignore the consequences brought about by insomnia because it produces stress and negatively affects your health. Try out these methods, and have pleasant dreams!

Keeping Your Marriage and Its Blanket of Love

There is no secret to a perfect marriage. If marriage could give you a glimpse of heaven, it could give you as much of hell. There is even a famous saying where the perfect marriage can only be found between a deaf and a blind couple, because the deaf husband cannot hear the nagging of his wife, while the blind wife cannot see the shortcomings of her husband.

Of course, there are also those couples who are lucky enough to be soul mates. Being truly and deeply in love with each other is more than what most people could ask for in a relationship. But even love is not enough to sustain a relationship. There are other factors that come into play.

Why then do people get married? Is it to have a family? Is it to have someone to grow old with? Is it for wealth and security? All of these count, but there’s a bigger reason. Marriage is when you give so much of yourself and yet, you feel whole.

Something as special as marriage should be nurtured forever. So what do couples need to keep it? Trust, love, respect, compassion, and patience are all important. But even the best marriages can run into trouble. This is because couples tend to take the simplest things for granted. Would you like to know some of these things? Then read on.

Proven tips for a happy marriage:

Point 1: Be independent.

Just because you marry, it doesn’t mean you must embrace everything about your partner. Sometimes, you forget about how different you two are because you’ve been together for so long. Don’t lose your uniqueness because it’s the same thing that attracted both you and your partner in the first place. Try to take on different interests and encourage your partner to do so too.

Point 2: Never be angry at the same time.

When you’re angry, you hear nothing else and you don’t care about anything else. If you find that both you and your partner are angry, try to have some space. Calm down. Then talk. Be sensitive to each other’s ups and downs. Talk through the problem and hear each other out. Abandon the whole world rather than each other. And never go to sleep without settling the argument. Most importantly, never yell at each other unless the house is on fire.

Point 3: If you have to disagree, do it lovingly.

There will be lots of times when you and your spouse won’t agree at all in some aspects. Don’t make your point sound like a criticism to your partner. It doesn’t matter who is wrong or right. Always bear in mind that an argument doesn’t need a winner or a loser.

Point 4: Never bring up mistakes of the past.

Whenever something goes wrong, do not rub past issues in. Don’t dwell over the past such that you become blind with the wonderful things ahead of your relationship.

Point 5: At least once every day, try to say one thoughtful or complimentary thing to your partner.

When a couple always spends time with each other, they often forget about courtesy. “Take the trash out. Do the laundry.” Isn’t there something missing in those phrases? Perhaps putting “Please” before each sentence would make it sound so much better. Never take each other for granted.

Showing constantly that you both like each other will help keep your relationship fresh. Even something as simple as complementing on your spouse’s looks or buying little unexpected gifts can help. Look for the things that would make your partner feel appreciated.

How do you live by the guidelines stated earlier? Lower your pride. But don’t get me wrong. Pride is a good thing. It keeps your head high in public. It's not a bad thing to have pride in someone or something. But in private, when you're with your partner, keep the pride level down; because it becomes a wall your partner would have to overcome.

How to Manage TensionHow to Manage Tension

Stress has always been a part of our lives. It is but a common occurrence for people to hear someone complain of how stressful his life had been in the school, in the workplace, or even with his family. This situation happens everywhere regardless of race, nationality, status in life, or level of education attained. Stress is just there clinging to us wherever we go, and we can’t merely disregard this sad truth.

We must remember that in whatever we do, there are just some inevitable factors that cause pressure and anxiety to us. On the other hand, there are those that we can control. We must therefore be sensible enough to differentiate the two so that we do not end up wasting our time, effort, money and abilities on matters that we can’t change.

Enumerated below are some helpful advice on how to cope with tension.

1. Identify what makes you anxious and uneasy. Making a list of your stressful experiences is useful. Immediately deal with the issues that you can change like waking-up late for work in the morning or beating deadlines during the last minute. Forget about the ones that you can’t influence like being stuck in a traffic jam or not getting into the elevator because there is no space left.

2. Calm down. A three-minute break would do you good. You can go to the bathroom and wash your face, sneak out to buy a candy bar, or inhale fresh air. You can also listen to relaxing music, punch a pillow, or call someone. Releasing your inner feelings to a good friend is a healthy option.

3. It will pass; it will be over before you know it. Constantly reminding yourself that the stressful event “will end sooner or later” can make you see the positive sides of things. At the same time, stabilize your emotions and think of what is the best thing to do rather than take your energy away from what needs to be done.

4. Know yourself. Ask yourself: What triggers your anxiety? If it is your job, then maybe it’s the right time for you to reconsider whether it would be best to find a less stressful job. You can also make your present job more bearable by allowing yourself to get that needed vacation or leave. Never tire yourself of thinking what can’t be changed immediately, like a new memorandum assigning you to a new work schedule that you don’t prefer. In due time, things will get better as you adjust to your work.

Eventually, you have two choices. You could change the situation or you could accept it. There’s no other way around it.

Who Says You Always Have to Comply?

Life has many rules. There seems to be different sets of rules for each aspect of life, and sets of rules for different kinds of lives. Who makes the rules is not clear, but there are “rulers” who dictate how life should be lived.

We are all victims. We follow many fabricated life rules without question. Once upon a time, we woke up to find out that doing this and being that were wrong; and we simply accepted these as facts. Let me give you some examples. They say:

1. You have to look flawless.

For decades, media have been telling us that possessing less-than-perfect facial features is unacceptable. Hence, they urge us to buy this and have that, no matter if it costs us much. We believed that. We started to feel inferior and embarrassed when we think (or are told) that we are not as good-looking as someone else is.

DEFIANCE: Don’t buy too much of things that are not needed for health, hygiene, and self-improvement. Instead, make your own rules. Tell yourself that outer appearance is not as important as inner characteristics are.

2. You ought to be in position.

Many people study and work so hard to get promoted or to be above everybody else. People made you believe that if you are not in position, you are a failure. If you are in position, you are a great success.

This is not always true. Many people doing menial jobs like garbage collection, shining shoes, and housekeeping live happy and peaceful lives. Most of them have happy homes and noble characters, which many rich people terribly lack.

DEFIANCE: Form your own life rules and insist that real success occurs when you have peace, joy, and a good character.

3. You should be ashamed of your body if you have no bulky muscles, or if you are not sexy.

Many have been victimized by this rule; with some of them ending up worse than before the rule affected them. Just look at how some jerks take steroid injections and end up with heart ailments.

DEFIANCE: Being fit does not mean having bulky muscles or being sexy. Keeping a trim tummy and toned muscles are enough to keep fit. The gym is not always the answer to fitness. One of the myths we have to expose is the belief that the gym is the only place where we can stay fit. The usual house chores or even some of your hobbies can keep you fit if done with a little imagination, and if combined with the right diet.

How to be a Good Host

Especially during the holiday season, a person may suddenly find himself a host to visitors – friends or relatives who planned a sleepover. There is no need to panic, however. With adequate preparation, being a good host to visitors is a breeze.

Before inviting, check how many people may be comfortably accommodated in your house. This evaluation includes counting how many can sleep in your guest room, how much food may be offered by the contents of your refrigerator, how many can dine at your table, among other concerns. Remember the length of time they are to stay, and the names of the people they will be bringing along.

Upon their arrival, make your guests feel at home. Make sure that their belongings, especially their valuables, are kept safe. Let them know of the schedule of meals and lights off time if applicable. Orient them about the basic parts of the house, such as their temporary room, kitchen, washroom, and the room where the telephone is. Inform them in a nice way about the things that they can and cannot do inside the house.

For example, let them know if drinking alcoholic beverages or cigarette smoking is prohibited to avoid complications. For obvious purposes, do not display many of your valuables when visitors are around.

To maximize the space of your living room, purchase a sofa set that can be pushed even to the corners. Buying beanbags and floor cushions are also advisable since they come in handy for guests who want to bring their children along.

Your dining table and chairs must be able to accommodate occasional guests and not only the regular members of your family at once. Needless to say, the food you serve must be enough to satisfy all your guests. Take note of their preferences, especially if they are allergic to some food items or their religion prohibits them from eating some dishes. During meals, prepare for a healthy conversation and advise other members of your family, especially the children, to be careful in making comments that may offend the guests.

Prepare sleeping quarters with comfortable beds for the guests. Ensure that the place has proper ventilation. Secure them some blankets, necessary toiletries, and medicine. If it is an entire family sleeping over, plan some games and other activities such as a movie marathon, a sing-along contest, and others. Remember to be polite and say goodbye when they leave.

Effective Foreign Language Training

Foreign languages are always fun and interesting to learn. Aside from the knowledge enhancement that you can bring to yourself, this is actually the first step to understand and eventually take in the culture of the country where that language is spoken. When you know more than the basics of one language, you start to be a part of its communication circle.

Training yourself to learn a foreign language needs persistence and determination from a beginner like you. You can’t speak fluently and confidently right away by just scanning a couple of reading materials about the language. Some people even take related courses in school but still cannot use the language well. Learning a foreign language takes more than just interest and familiarity. You have to put your heart and mind to it as well.

Foreign language training starts by exposing yourself to the language being used by other people. This is done so you can familiarize yourself with the basics and everyday expressions of the language. Watch TV programs and films that use the language with translations of the language you can understand. Watch plays starring characters with accents that are native of the language you are trying to learn.

During this time, you should be able to observe how the native speakers pronounce the language’s sounds, the speed of their dialogues, how they form words and sentences, and when they use certain expressions.

With basic knowledge on the language’s everyday expressions, you can start practicing. Use them as much as you can. For example, instead of saying “good morning” to the people you live with as you wake up everyday, say buenos dias (Spanish) or buongiorno (Italian). They say practice makes perfect. So the more you use the terms, the more you will get used to it.

You can then start reading books and training materials that teach you the foreign language. For better results, purchase books containing exercises (with key to corrections) and audio tapes, if any, in order for you to evaluate how you are doing during your self-study. Don’t forget to have a complete and comprehensive translation dictionary between the language you are trying to learn and a language you understand very well (ex. English-Spanish Dictionary or French-English Dictionary). This way, whenever you encounter a difficult word, you will be able to look it up immediately and understand what it means.

Finally, if you think you have more than enough knowledge about the language after many practice exercises, try watching a film that uses the language (this time, without subtitles and translations) or read a book written purely in that language. For unfamiliar words, don’t hesitate to press the pause button (or you can pause yourself from reading), then consult your dictionary. Do this over and over again until you can finally speak, write, and understand the language very well.

Yes, foreign language training sure needs hard work and determination. But hey, didn’t you notice it can be so much fun?

You Have a Choice

People often say they have no choice when faced with a dead end. They say they have no choice but to take the one direction available, which is often a wrong one. When they say that remark, they must understand that they have to take the blame for the consequences of what they will do.

However, truth is far from the often-circulated concept that man has no choice. We do have choices. As long as you have rights to protect, you have a choice. When rights are denied, then so are options. When you let your rights be denied, this too is an option.

Just look at slaves. Most of them obey not out of willingness, but because they have no rights; and thus, they have no choice but to obey. Yet, in another light, it is really their choice that they are slaves. Even not having a choice is still a choice.

Some are willing slaves. They voluntarily throw their rights away because they believe the person to whom they render service to is worthy of treating them as such. Some simply accept their lot as slaves, and that is their choice. Some refuse to be slaves and choose to assert their rights. All these are choices.

The kind of life you have is the life you choose. You cannot blame anyone for how your life ends up.

For instance, you can choose to live happily or miserably. It all depends on you. If you live a hectic life, that’s because you choose to be busy. No one can force a kind of life upon you, not even a superior who points a gun to your head. Every choice has its consequence.

Thus, if you choose to be healthy, live up to that choice. Be healthy. The choice will have to be followed by a decision to be disciplined. Being disciplined means that you must exert effort to attain and maintain a healthy body. Eat right, exercise right, sleep right, and live right.

Don’t blame anyone else if you get sick. Getting sick is a choice. Some people cannot afford to be healthy because they choose not to afford it. They can spend for something else but not for good health. To be able to prioritize good health in your budget, you have to live a simple life. Every choice entails a consequence, so you have to live up to your choices.

Meditation and Memory

Meditation is a wonderful method of helping the entire body to relax. Through a system of breathing exercises the body naturally feels the stress being released and for many people it allows them to be much more open and receptive.

Meditation can also aid in helping with memory. When a person feels relaxed the memory seems to function much better. Through the use of breathing and concentration the memory feels alive and vibrant once again.

Remember the last time you forgot someone's name or their birthday? It was probably during a period where you had a great deal on your mind or you were feeling stress. Upon realizing your forgetfulness this generally stirs up even more anxiety which again leads to more memory problems. It's a cycle that some people find themselves constantly in.

By employing some of the techniques of meditation that people have been using for years, you can help open up your mind and memory thus allowing it to function better. It's wonderful to imagine having the ability to recall names, numbers and important dates without having to look for pieces of paper or check a calendar. Instead it would all be there within your memory.

Meditation does not need to be a complicated process. There are simple exercises that anyone can do for a few moments each day that will help boost the memory. The key to using meditation as a memory booster is that it will help build concentration which works hand in hand with developing memory.

Finding a quiet spot is very helpful when you want to meditate. Some people also feel that having essential oils or candles burning adds to the necessary ambiance. If that does help you relax than it's going to beneficial to the entire process including helping you to reenergize your mind. There are also certain scents of oils and candles that are said to be beneficial for memory function.

Meditation can be taught in a class and there are usually classes offered at natural health care facilities and often even at regular gyms. Some of the classes are geared towards helping the memory to function. For a person who feels as though their mind isn't as sharp as it once was, taking one of these classes will benefit them for years to come. Building up a regular routine of meditation to aid in boosting the memory will also build self-esteem. Feeling as though you are on top of your game mentally is a wonderful self-image booster.

For someone who feels less comfortable within a class of people learning meditation, there are many books and manuals that offer substantial information on mediation as a method of empowering the memory. Some offer illustrations of body position and along with descriptions for the breathing exercises. Following the methods outlined daily will open the person up to the benefits of meditation. By using the techniques described they will not only be relaxing their bodies but fueling their memory as well. Having a relaxed and clear mind is one of the most important aspects to having a strong memory.

Vitamin B - The Miracle Memory Supplement?

Taking a multi-vitamin everyday is a great way to supplement one's diet. The various vitamins and minerals supplied add fuel to a healthy body. Some of those vitamins may play an even more important role when it comes to memory.

There have been studies that suggest that if a person has lower levels of some of the B Vitamins that they may be more prone to developing Alzheimer's disease. This is a frightening prospect for most people. The idea of slowly losing the ability to remember small details until it progresses into the inability to remember anything at all. Tests conducted on some individuals who do suffer from Alzheimer's have shown a lack of the B Vitamins in their bodies. Therefore using that knowledge to improve the intake and absorption of the vitamin might slow down the progress of the memory loss and the onset of the ravages of the disease.

Taking a supplement rich in B Vitamins is one approach. There are several supplements available that a person can take daily to boost their Vitamin B intake resulting in a boost to their memory. It's best to consult with a health care professional who is familiar with the effects of Vitamin B on memory. They have the knowledge necessary to recommend a supplement that will provide the memory boosting benefits that the patient most needs.

However, taking a pill isn't the only way to get more Vitamin B into your body. There are certain foods that are rich in B Vitamins and offer the opportunity to boost your memory function in the most natural way. If this is the approach then it's as simple as incorporating specific foods into the diet that work towards building the memory.

Liver is a very good source of Vitamin B but many people have difficulty eating liver. For those that do enjoy it, it provides a nutritious and easy method of helping combat the effects of memory loss with aging. Salmon is another food that is rich in Vitamin B. With all the easy and delicious methods of preparing salmon it can become a staple in anyone's diet.

Developing a common sense approach to using Vitamin B as a supplement to aid in memory function is relatively easy. Depending on your tastes, if the foods rich in Vitamin B aren't appealing, visiting your physician or a health food store and inquiring about a supplement is a wise decision. Although it's not common for individuals to lack Vitamin B within their bodies, it does happen. In fact it occurs more readily in elderly people which might account for the reason behind their feelings of forgetfulness. By asking their physicians about the value of a supplement they might just be taking the first step to a renewed memory.

It can be disheartening to forget small details such as names or birthdays. Having the ability to regain some of the confidence that comes with a strong memory is a way to renew your outlook. Vitamin B is a safe and efficient way to do that.

Exercise Your Way to a Better Memory

Exercise is fundamental in maintaining a healthy body. Activities that stimulate the body aid in many areas including keeping our muscles toned, and also in reducing weight. Another substantial benefit to regular physical exercise is that it appears that it aids in boosting the memory.

When we exercise our heart beats at a faster rate. When our hearts beat faster the blood within our bodies flows at a quicker pace. This translates into more blood moving through the brain. This equals improvement in certain brain functions including memory.
That means that by exercising we are improving our skills to remember many things. Often as we age in particular we become a bit forgetful and naturally associate that as a normal part of getting older. However, the same exercise that you do to improve how you feel, can also improve your ability to retain information. That's an incredible bonus.

The type of exercise doesn't appear to be as important as the duration. Getting your heart up to a certain pace and keeping it there for a specific time is essential. Therefore it's wise to choose an activity that you enjoy. Doing something pleasurable helps the time pass quickly and before you know it your memory will have the work-out it needs to stay on track.

Walking outdoors is an inexpensive way to exercise not only your body but your memory as well. A twenty or thirty minute walk several times a week will aid in boosting your memory. It would also be wise to engage in mental exercises as you are walking. Testing yourself on the names of the streets that you regularly pass, becomes a silent game of memory. Once you have the street names mastered you can shift your focus to other elements, perhaps house numbers or colors of the homes. This is a wonderful way to boost your memory in more ways than one all at the same time.

Another relaxing and gentle form of exercise is swimming. Many people enjoy daily swims throughout the entire year. Getting the blood flowing helps in memory function as well as toning the body. Most indoor swimming pools also offer swimming classes that involve aerobics. This is a great method of partaking in exercise. The instructor demonstrates several sequences of moves that the participants mimic. This also is a great memory game. The repetition of the exercises helps embed them in the memory. Soon the swimmer is recalling the moves straight from memory.

Going to a gym is also a great way to work the entire body. There are many pieces of equipment that can be used to increase heart rate and blood flow to the brain. There are also other ways to get a boost to your memory through physical activity that isn't traditionally thought of as exercise. One such method is dancing. By putting on some favorite music, moving the furniture and taking a spin around the floor, your memory is getting the exercise it craves. Movement is essential to memory!

Boost Your Memory to Remember People's Names

Almost everyone has been in a situation where someone's name slips your mind. You have been introduced to them in the past but trying to remember their name is futile. Instead you fumble along, looking for them to hand you a clue. This is an embarrassing situation for not only the person whose memory seems to have taken a mini-vacation, but it's also difficult for the person whose name you forgot. It might make them feel slighted or unimportant.

There are tricks that the average person can employ that will help will boosting the memory and aiding in remembering important things including names. One technique that many people swear by is saying the name out loud once the person has introduced themselves to you. By repeating it you are hearing it again and the name becomes associated in your memory with the person's face. You might also try asking them pointed questions while using their names. For instance, looking directly at them while saying, "What do you do for a living, Lisa?" Or "Do you have any children, Paul?" Again the idea is to use the name in a way that you are hearing it giving your memory an additional opportunity to absorb it.

Studying the person's face and hair when you are first introduced to them can work as well. Most people have something different about them, be it a mole or perhaps a tooth that is slightly askew. If you concentrate on that aspect and then associate it with their name, your memory will bind the two together. For instance, if you are introduced to a woman named Anne who has a mole above her left eye it would be wise to focus on that as you repeat her name silently. Your memory will connect the two and then if you happen to see Anne again the mole above her eye will be the catalyst that jogs you into remembering her name.

If you are faced with a large group of people whose names are all new to you, both of these techniques might prove handy. Most people will not expect someone to recall their names if they are part of a huge crowd. All we need to do is remember back to grade school when the teacher would place the students in rows according to a seating plan. It is almost impossible for any teacher to memorize twenty-five or thirty names within the first few days of school, so having the seating plan affords the teacher the ability to glance at the name that's noted on the plan and associate it with the child's face. As adults we don't have the luxury of a seating plan when we meet people in a business or social setting so it's important to find a technique that gives your memory a boost. If you do that, the next time you come face-to-face with someone you've already been introduced to, you'll remember their name.

Boost Your Child's Memory

Every parent wants their child to flourish and succeed. As they begin school many mothers and fathers help their children to memorize and recite the alphabet and to learn the sounds that the letters make. These are the beginning memory skills that all children need.

An early method of introducing your child to memory exercises is the games that involve matching pictures or words. A game like this can be purchased very inexpensively and usually entails several small cards with simple pictures on them that children turn over after viewing, remembering where certain images are helps them score points. Even children as small as three or four-years-old can take part and this is a wonderful method of not only boosting their memory, but it gives parents a fantastic opportunity to interact with their child.

As children mature they begin to read. Reading involves not only sounding out the letters, joining them together into words, but many words are simply remembered. Children become familiar with the pattern of letters and the word becomes embedded in their minds. The same method occurs when children learn to count from one to ten. After reciting the numbers over and over again, their memory takes hold and they are able to count, first from one to five and then higher and higher.

Another great technique for both moms and dads to help their toddlers remember things is to incorporate memory building exercises into everyday activities. This could involve time spent walking outside or playing at the park. Pointing to items such as a tree, a flower or a dog and having the child repeat the word. This helps build up their memory and if it's repeated over and over again, before long the child will blurt out the word from memory when they spot the item.

Television is often a highly debated subject when it comes to its influence on children. However, there are some programs that if a toddler watches while in the company of a parent or care-giver can become fuel for the memory. These types of programs actually make great learning tools. If a child hears a song daily, eventually they will remember the words and chime in, singing along. Even young children can hold this type of information - the lyrics and the tune - in their memories. Depending on the type of programs that you choose for your child, they might boost his or her memory which helps to ready them for when they enter school. Stimulating the brain can start at any age.

Helping children work on the muscle of their memory doesn't stop when they learn to read and write. Often, older children struggle with tests or exams finding it hard to retain all the necessary information. There are steps that a parent can take to aid their older children in readying for examinations. A great method is to encourage the child to read over their notes out loud. Often when we hear information as opposed to just reading it, our memory absorbs it much quicker. Having your child read his or her notes to you and then using that information to quiz them on important points will work towards implanting the information in their memory.

Boosting your Memory During Menopause

As women age their bodies inevitably change. After decades of maturing and living, women find themselves entering menopause. With the end of menstruation, many women experience numerous side effects. Many are nothing more than inconvenience, the dreaded cold and hot spells and the hair loss. However for many women menopause also brings about memory loss and a feeling of forgetfulness. Small details that they once retained with ease now elude them.

This is now the time that many women want to experience the same clarity they had years ago. Finding a way to boost their memory is one way they can control the changes their body is going through. Dealing with daily brain fog is a problem that can be addressed.

An often thought cause of declining memory function in women of menopause age is a lower level of estrogen in the body. As the body nears menopause and prepares to cease monthly menstruation, the estrogen levels that were once strong begin to decline. Many women turn towards conventional medicine that speaks to the benefits of taking an estrogen supplement as a means to ward off the loss of memory that plagues women entering menopause. They are prescribed a daily or weekly dose of estrogen which is designed to replace the estrogen lost through the process of aging. The body absorbs the added supplements and the mind becomes focused and clear again as it was when the woman was younger. The estrogen acting as a booster for the memory this results in the fogginess that was being felt to disappear.

One of the best defenses against a loss of memory for maturing women is exercise. This not only works as a strong stimulant for the brain but it helps to clear the mind. Often when a person is thinking of too many things at once, the brain becomes almost overloaded and just as a cup or bowl becomes full and the liquid seeps out over the edge, so do some details in a memory that is filled to capacity. Menopause often brings about sadness or bouts of depression in women. As women enter a new stage in life they remember their younger years and the promise that those years had. Now looking back they might recall many of the things they didn't accomplish. This can lead to a feeling of sadness or depression which also contributes to reduced memory. By exercising in a moderate way daily or even several times a week, the body responds to that stimulation by helping to relieve the sense of depression, thus working towards feeling as though the memory is back on target.

Being mentally stimulated also helps the menopausal women in many ways. Be it reading a book to their grandchild or playing a friendly game of cards, they are engaging their memories. By keeping focused on using their minds, their memory naturally stays alert. Boosting the memory this way is a great method of keeping the menopausal women as aware as she was decades ago.

Even though the menopausal woman has to accept the many changes that her body is going through, she doesn't have to accept memory changes at all. Boosting her memory is a vitally important step to keeping herself young.

Natural Remedies that Work to Boost Your Memory

Natural supplements are gaining popularity as they work towards improving many aspects of health and well-being. There are supplements available that aid in memory clarity and have a positive effect on boosting memory. These remedies are derived from substances that occur naturally and have been consumed in one form or another for centuries. Their impact on body functions proven over time and their ability to aid in clearing a cloudy memory are worth investigating.

A bit of research will reveal one supplement that seems to lead the pack when it comes to keeping a person's ability to remember at its highest level. That supplement is Gingko Biloba Extract. The reason that it's thought to have such a significant impact on memory function is that it helps with the flow of blood throughout the body. This of course includes the flow of blood to the brain. Blood contains oxygen and having a steady and constant flow of blood keeps the memory sharp. There are numerous different brand names of supplements that proclaim to be the best source of Gingko Biloba Extract therefore it's up the potential consumer to decide which one is best suited for their needs.

Another supplement that appears to offer benefits in the memory department is rosemary. Rosemary is often thought of as a spice we use when cooking. The effects of it as a herbal supplement are interesting. Rosemary works as a way of stimulating the brain. Keeping the brain stimulated is essential in making certain that memory is working correctly. There are different varieties of supplements that contain rosemary and checking the dosage and strength is always recommended.

Many of the natural remedies that offer benefits in memory function work towards other health goals as well. An example of this is green tea. Green tea is becoming a natural cure for many ailments or conditions. It's thought to have a positive effect on memory function and along with black tea when consumed in moderation seems to help in optimizing a person's ability to remember.

Ginseng also seems related to improved memory function. Ginseng is a herb that is often associated with improving energy and people who are aging swear by its ability to revitalize. If it has this profound effect on other parts of the body it would seem reasonable that it would work as a booster to the mind and the memory. There are several different supplements that can be purchased that contain ginseng and it's important to weight the benefits of the other ingredients when choosing one that is specifically formulated in helping with memory function.

For people who are just beginning to feel the signs of memory loss, possibly because of age or in some cases with the stress of everyday life small details seem to slip the mind, taking a natural supplement can be the ideal solution. They generally offer fewer side effects than traditional medication along with substantial benefits that reach well beyond their memory boosting attributes.

What to Eat to Boost Your Memory

Being aware of the nutritional value of the foods we eat is obviously essential to a healthy body. Eating the right combination of carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats works towards keeping muscles strong and organs functioning the way nature intended.

Our minds are no different and eating foods rich in certain nutrients can help alleviate brain fog and boost our memories back to the place they were when we were younger. It only seems natural that since most of our body is fueled by the healthiest of foods, feeding our minds the same way follows suit.

There has been extensive research done into studying the effects of certain minerals and vitamins in relation to brain function. It's common sense that sugar although a temporary stimulant quickly loses it's luster and although we might feel very vibrant and alive after eating a candy bar, within an hour or two our bodies have become sluggish and less responsive. Our minds and therefore our memories would feel the same high and crashing low if fed a diet of sweets.

Eating sensible is important for boosting your memory. Foods that are rich in antioxidants are said to work in helping memory function. The benefits of antioxidants are often associated with fighting cancer and playing a positive role in certain diseases of the heart. Now with the knowledge that they also work towards improved memory function, having them as a staple in the daily diet seems natural. Some examples of foods readily available that are high in antioxidants include carrots and certain kinds of nuts. Green tea is also an excellent source of antioxidants and its benefits reach well beyond boosting the memory.

Another product that helps with memory function is soy. Eating foods like tofu will provide benefits that help improve memory. Another great source of soy is the soy milks that are available in most food markets. Many are flavored and the taste although not exactly the same as cow's milk is considered appealing to many people. Soy also offers many other benefits to the body and knowing that it can help with boosting your memory is good stimulation for trying it and possibly making it a regular part of your diet.

Most people use oil in some form for cooking and if choosing a specific type of oil can boost your memory it would seem sensible to incorporate it into your everyday cooking. Olive oil is a healthy choice for many reasons including its effects on memory function. Using it to cook or within salad dressing is a healthy way to work towards having less brain cloudiness and improved memory clarity. It's another step towards feeling confident that you are doing everything you can to ensure that your memory stays sharp.

Adjusting one's diet to balance the effects of memory loss seems a perfect solution. With just a small change in the consumption of certain foods anyone can feel as though they are not only eating healthier but also improving their memory.

Boost Your Memory with Caffeine

There have been a lot of negative reviews of the consequences of consuming coffee, tea or eating chocolate because of the amount of caffeine that these substances contain. There might be a silver lining to the caffeine cloud though and that's how caffeine can play an important role in boosting your memory.

Often we experience short term memory problems. At times it can be whether we turned off the water after we brushed our teeth or if we locked the door before we went to bed. These things can nag at our minds enough that we turn our car around to make certain that we won't be faced with a flood because of running water or we jump out of bed only to find that we did indeed lock the door.

Life is busy and it's easy to forget some of the smaller things that we take for granted. Our minds might have trouble focusing because of a conflict at work or stress at home. This isn't an uncommon occurrence and it happens everyday to people of every age. Losing track of tiny details is common but certainly not something that we need to live with. There are steps that we can take to improve our memory enough that we never have to deal with having our minds filled with those nagging thoughts again.

If you find that you're one of the people who can't put their finger on certain small facts and it has become a frustration for you, it might be time to consider the benefit of caffeine in relation to short term memory.

Caffeine is a stimulant and it works to stimulate not only our hearts but our minds as well. It can give a person the extra boost they need to clear their mind. Many people feel the need to have a cup of coffee each morning so they can focus. The caffeine that is found within the coffee jolts the brain and the memory can retain more information. You probably know someone who says that they can't function until they've had their coffee. It appears that there's more truth in that statement than most of us have ever realized. That first cup of morning coffee gets the memory gears moving in many people.

This can be especially important for many people at work. Having the ability to retain important information is essential for their employment. If they find their memory lacking it could have serious consequences that stretch far beyond some of the minor annoyances that they might experience at home when they forget to do things.

A cup of coffee or tea in the morning might be just the prescription to boost the memory enough that the rest of the day you function at full memory capacity. The same can be said for the lull that many people experience by mid-afternoon. Having a piece of chocolate or a cup of hot chocolate stimulates your memory again and the rest of the day will flow as smoothly as the beginning did.

Boost Your Memory

As we age we often find that certain parts of our bodies aren't working as well as they once did. One of the most common complaints is in the area of memory. Many people suffer memory loss, or a clouded memory. They can pinpoint major events of their lives but when it comes to the finer details they can't quite put their finger on every point.

This isn't an issue that just affects the elderly. Memory loss can happen to anyone of any age. Life is busy and when we have so much on our minds, some information might slip between the cracks, leaving us frustrated that we aren't as clear-minded as we once were. It can be something as simple as forgetting where we last put the car keys or when a friend's birthday is. If it happens occasionally we may overlook it as just having too much on our minds and therefore it becomes harder to retain all the information we need to. However if it's an ongoing problem it is something we need to address.

Memory loss can be an embarrassing issue and many people hesitate to talk about it with family, with friends and even with their physician. They view it as a sign of aging and because they may not be ready to face being older, they ignore the problem. They assume that it happens to everyone and they just accept it.

There are solutions to the problem of memory loss. Depending on the seriousness of the problem, the remedies can range from exercises to enhance your memory, to natural supplements that help clear the mind or in some cases to traditional prescription medications.

Another approach that works for many people is to use aids in helping them remember important dates or events. Having a method of keeping track of things that involves writing them down when they are fresh in the mind guarantees that you won't forget them, because you can refer back to them. It also serves another purpose, often when we write things down we can visualize the note later. Our mind will pull it back up and before we even refer to the notebook or day planner, we have recalled the name, date or event.

Some people have found it helpful to repeat things out loud. This works to reinforce the information and implant it into the memory. This seems to work especially well for people who have trouble remembering names when they are meeting someone for the first time.

Memory loss is a condition that can affect anyone. By taking a few small steps you can work towards building your memory back up. It's much like the Memory Game that children play when they are small to exercise that part of their mind. The adult version may differ a bit, but the principle is very much the same. Exercising the mind is much like exercising any muscle within your body. If it's not stimulated our memory won't work as well as it once did.

When To Teach Your Child From Home?

Today’s Child faces so many hurdles within a school system . Even though the “No Child Left Behind” is on the bumper of many School Teachers’ and Officials’ automobiles , your child still has a likelihood of being left behind. If the child cannot keep up , then the only person that will be able to help him is a Parent.

Parents wear many hats. They are cheerleaders, coaches, mentors, friends, and sometimes they must assume the role as Academic Teacher by choosing to Homeschool their child. This is not a decision to make quickly and take lightly. It is tough. If you and your spouse think you can share the responsibility but you both work full time, think again. You may be able to do it, but it is tough.

If you choose to Homeschool, if at all possible, try to register through the City or County in which you live rather than with a Private Organization or through a Christian School. If you believe that your child may eventually re-enter public schools, then you should most definitely keep him in the system. It makes for a speedier and quicker re-entry into the system.

If you choose to go through the School Board in the county where you live, they will likely give you a list of things you are required to provide the Board with at the end of the year, such as testing required or a form to document how many hours you teach your child per day, and other important information.

Just because you choose to home school doesn’t mean your child cannot participate in activities with other children. More and more parents are teaching their children from home so therefore, more activities and sports programs are becoming available through Homeschool Associations.

Don’t worry about finding curriculum, there are many avenues that you can take to find what you need to start teaching your child from home. You will find many huge book store chains now either carry curriculum or they have enough books that are workbook-formatted and fall within the curriculum that you need for your child’s current grade level. Check with Bookstore Giants like Barnes and Noble and Books-a –Million.

If you don’t find what you are looking for there, check out Christian Book Stores and your local Library. You can also go online and find a lot of books that you can order through the internet. Alpha-Omega is just one of many Homeschooling Supply Companies that have boxed curriculum available for their homeschooling parents.

Take the time to become informed before you jump right in and start to teach your child from home. Find out what is working for other Homeschool Families. What curriculum did they find most user friendly? Homeschooling parents love to talk about what works for them, and since you’re the new kid on the block, open up your ears and listen to what they have to say.

Try to set a schedule that everyone can live with but remember if Life Happens and you have to deviate from it, big deal, that’s just the luxury of Home schooling.

True Teacher

Teachers constantly have to work at creative ways to gain control of their classrooms and keep it. One effective way that is working for one teacher is almost like assuming the role of a very professional public speaker. She starts her classes all with an icebreaker that catches the attention of her audience.. her students, and continues throughout the entire class in a very formal but fresh approach.

The icebreaker for her high school students must be something that is interesting to them. She might begin with something like, “ I was watching Friends last night, and didn’t realize until last night the reason so many of you girls look like Jennifer Aniston is because of something called the ‘Rachael-Do’, did you guys see that?” They may laugh, they may not, but she caught their attention by mentioning a show that many of them expressed they watch. She probably uses a few better ice breakers, but she does try to catch their attention with something that catches their interest.

She will continue her class, careful to watch when she is starting to send her students into nap mode. If this happens, she will either divide them up into groups for a quick 5 minute project or she will divide them into teams for quick review games. She is the high school’s all-time favorite teacher.

The reason this teacher is successful is because she not only cares about her students learning the classroom material, she cares about the students in her classroom. She likes to watch the “light bulb” come on and is driven to “keep them guessing.” It’s really what she enjoys about her job.

In addition to trying to keep her students’ active attention in the classroom, outside of the classroom she is always trying to catch them “doing something right” or “catch them being good.” She will find the student who is eating alone in the cafeteria, and go join them, all the while trying to find another student or two to pair them up with so they will have a “lunch buddy.”

She is not only a teacher, she has become a mentor to more students than all of the other faculty members combined. She and her husband attend the football games and school functions with a smile and not “I need to be here because it looks good” attitude. She’s a strong supporter of the children of her school.

Chances are this teacher may find out things about her students that she would have preferred not to know, but she will be the first adult to know of many teen problems. This teacher like a parent, finds time for every child. She offers encouragement and tries to never judge, she never takes sides. She will be the teacher the students remember all throughout their lives. She is a teacher, instructor, confidant, friend and you should think your lucky stars your child sits in her classroom.

Teachers Can Make Or Break Your Child And They Know It

Schools do their best to hire teachers that have a sincere desire to teach, encourage and mentor our children. Unfortunately, just like in any other career or profession, you always have one or two ruin everything for everyone else. It is important for you to know who spends a lot of time with your children , if you don’t know …..Find out.

Parents send their children to school at the tender age of five. They have high hopes as they rush to the big YELLOW BUS only to have those dreams shattered three weeks later because the “Teacher” humiliated them in front of the entire class.
Children are at a vulnerable age when we send them to Kindergarten, but we send them anyway. We trust that when we do, they will be well taken care of by every adult at the School. It doesn’t happen. If you think that it does, does the name MARY KAY mean anything to you?

In a day where beautiful young Teachers are bedding students, you can really never know who your Child has teaching them Math. Teachers and their viewpoints make their “earmark” on your children and if it is positive, that is wonderful. If it isn’t, depending on what it is, it can be something that the child takes with them for the rest of his/her life and sometimes it can hinder a child. Adults that use their role as Teachers to enforce a good positive learning environment are a blessing. The Teachers that use their role to set up students for ridicule, often joining in when they have a child that is being picked on, simply by finding ways to call the child out, is a true curse.

Very few of those Teachers exist but they do exist. Teachers with long standing Drug Problems teach your child, and they don’t see anything wrong with themselves. They are the “bookie” that gets your child involved early in Sportsbetting and they never give it a second thought. In a City School System within a Southern State, one teacher became a BOOKIE as a side-gig to pay for all of his student loans. He took money from children and their Parents, and if the teenager couldn’t pay up, he threatened to give them a lower grade. What a Mentor!

It is important as Parents; we talk to our Children and tell them how to handle certain situations in the classroom, both with other students and Teachers. If your child is blind – sided by another kid who decides to use your child’s face as boxing practice, what do you want him to do? Do you want him to turn the other cheek? The choice is yours, but if he fights back, he will likely face out of school suspension. If not, in this day and age, he might have his throat slit. Make up your mind, what is your policy. Some parents opt for self-defense. Then their child is marked as a Troubled Teen by those wonderful people we call Teachers.

Teach Your Children Good Study Habits

Children will try our patience and we will try their patience but one thing we have to remember is that we’re the parents. Any study habits our children develop now, they learn from us and take with them to college. If a child learns early in childhood to study, they will appreciate education, if not, they defy it.

School Systems across the nation have let our children down. There aren’t any Study Skills-type courses until our children are well into High School. Most school systems have better things to teach children while they’re in Middle School, for instance, sex education. It seems that developing good study habits just isn’t that important until our children are almost out of reach.

What to do about it? As Parents, we have to make sure we teach our children what they don’t learn in school. For instance, Religion and Faith come from Parents, as it should. Study Skills is something that Teachers should be more qualified to teach, but they don’t so we will.

If you don’t know where to start, one of the best places to start is online to gain resources and information on how to teach your child to study. A pricey, but fantastic alternative in supplementing your child’s education is at the Sylvan Learning Centers. Parents who have the means to send their children to Sylvan should definitely do so. It will be the wisest investment you make in your child’s education.

If Sylvan Learning Centers are not an option, first ask a Teacher you trust, if they would mind to tutor your children on developing good study skills or you can certainly try this on your own!

The most important concept your children grasp is that even if they do not have homework they still have plenty to study and they will be expected to study every night that school is in session. We also need to encourage our children to begin using notecards as a way to memorize definitions and important points that will be on their tests. They need to know it is expected of them to study long before the night prior to the test.

Developing good study habits may be one of the first components you should teach your children as early as the first grade so they can understand from an early age what is expected of them throughout their life. Plant in their minds what you expect from an early age forward. Do you expect straight A’s? Or are A’s and B’s OK with you?

Teach them to ask questions and find answers for themselves. If they feel like they need to ask you for help, let them know that you will gladly help them anytime. Children do need to be reminded, no matter how responsible they are, to do their homework and homework should be done immediately after school. Participating in your child’s education is important to their life-long success as a student, and it really does start with you.

Motivation For The (Lazy) High School Student.

How do you motivate a High School student to get things done and try to learn a few things a long the way? It’s a tough task, and often it may seem impossible, but if you make it fun for everyone it’s Mission Possible.

By the time children reach High School they are pretty much set in their study habits. Most Students are not only looking to have a good time, they are not looking to change their study habits. Hormones kick in full swing and the only thing on their minds are Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

As a Teacher, the first thing you need to do is set some ground rules on what you expect in your classroom. If you don’t establish what is acceptable and what is not acceptable, then you won’t be able to gain the respect you need and deserve from your students.

You may believe that whatever poor study habits your students possess when they walk into your class will be thrown right out the door by the end of first period. Nothing like the Power of Positive Thinking! But, you’re wrong.

Students have spent a number of years developing their current study habits , these poor habits didn’t become a habit overnight , and when you start to “undo” the poor study habits to build a more successful way for your students to learn, it may go back to the 21 Days to Make a Habit belief. Since you are dealing with High School Students with more important things on their minds, you might want to give it 42 days!

The key in getting Students to listen to you is.. First, establish those ground rules, then let them know right up front what you won’t settle for as a Teacher and what you won’t let them settle for as a student. If you try effective, open communication, you will be surprised at where you may be able to take these students by the end of the year. If they want to learn it, you can provide a classroom environment that is one they can certainly learn in but as the old saying goes, if you lead the horses to water, and they don’t drink, there isn’t much you can do.

When motivating your Student to change their Study Habits, it is important to set some short-term and realistic goals. Provide Study Guides on the material you are covering in class and show students the most effective way to use those study guides. If you have a Class Syllabus it’s great to attach a list of study tips to the back of it. Inform students from the beginning that because you have a Class Syllabus in their hands, there are no excuses for delayed or missed assignments.

Encourage your students to be where they are yet look ahead by planning ahead once they are familiar with the current chapter’s material. Teach them effective ways to study for tests and let them know that when you see vast improvements from all of them, rewards will surely follow.

Finding Time For Education

Today , Children all over the country are pushed to succeed in Sports, Academics , Musical Talent , and other outside activities. Parents want their children to Volunteer at local Hospitals and help out at the Hospice whenever possible. Children are encouraged to read up on current events and be able to intelligently talk about those events at the Dinner Table.

Why are we driving our Children to succeed in every area of their lives? Is it because College Admissions are tougher each and every year with more and more High School Graduates offering Admissions Committees more and more credentials? Or is it because at Dinner Parties Moms and Dads enjoy telling stories of how they have Little Tommy taking Pitching Lessons 5 days a week , while juggling Homework , Boy Scouts, Soccer, and Church Activities. Has it become a Social Status?

What are we doing to these kids? We complain when children can’t stay focused on their school work and are quick to get angry when they forget their homework , but yet off we go to yet another Pitching Lesson. Priorities must come first. Throw in for good measure a day volunteering at the local Hospital . After all , we want our children to stand out and have excellent resumes as they stand before College Admissions Committees , so let’s start now. Volunteering will look good to somebody.

Before you drive your child to the brink of insanity , stop for a minute and see what it is that is driving you to drive them. Could it possibly be that you weren’t as successful as you could have been or is it a social standing among other parents? If you notice at Ballgames and Swim Meets , Parents will chat not so much about their children but about what their children are doing. It is true that College Admissions will not give your child a second look unless they stand out , but make sure you don’t over do it . Also consider your child . Are you driving them to the point where when they aren’t with you , they are relieved and tell their friends that they don’t “know how much more they can take”? If so, you may need to take a step back and ask yourself what is really important here.

You must give your child the best education possible and encourage them in everything they choose to do . Don’t overdo Sports unless the child has the true talent that scouts will see when the day finally arrives that your son or daughter is looking at different colleges. If the little boy you encouraged to play Basketball is slow on the court and you still insist that all 5’6” of him is going to play College Basketball , there may be a problem with where you are guiding him in life. Help your child set realistic goals when facing their future.

While it is OK to encourage your child in all things , it is not OK to overload them to the point where they cannot possibly meet your expectations. To do so will be costly , because the first area that will suffer , is their education.

Education Is A Have-To, Not A Choice

You are seated at the kitchen table when out of the blue your 17-year old son announces that he is not going to college. What do you do? The first thought is to slam your hand down on the table and scream something to the fact that yes he will or face being dis-owned,but stop and think about this for a minute before jumping right into the war zone.

First , ask yourself why did he choose to make your day over coffee and juice at 7 AM in the morning? Was he mad over something the night before , maybe you didn’t let him stay out all night at a late party , why is he suddenly going to throw the notion of college out the door? If you decide that it is possibly a rebellion thing , it might be a good thing to just ignore it altogether. He is throwing a tantrum and you could make it worse by meeting up to his challenge.

If you decide that his sudden “confession” is not one of retaliation or rebellion , find out why he doesn’t want to go to college. Take time to hear what he is saying to you and make sure he knows that you hear him by saying , “If I hear you correctly , your telling me that because Stanford is over 1000 miles away……” If your child was first looking at colleges relatively far from home , it may not be an issue of going to college , it may just be an issue of going too far from home. That is something , as a parent , you can live with and work on.

If your child has lost all ambition to go to college , find out why . Is it because he doesn’t think he can make it in College Courses or is it that he doesn’t have any idea of what to do with his life or what he wants to pursue? Once you find out the why it is easier to try to fix the problem . Understand , however, there may not be a “why” at all. Lack of ambition or involvement with drugs , alcohol , friends , girlfriends , and many other influences can weigh heavy on a child’s decision not to proceed with an education.

How you choose to handle the problem is entirely up to you , but use kit gloves. This may be a life-changing moment for your child . The sad thing is that the decision he makes in regards to his Education will follow him for the rest of his life.

If your child hangs tough with the decision not to attend college, here is what you need to do: Type up 2 formal documents and print them off for your child to look over with you . One document will be comparable to a rent agreement , and the other a loan. If your child decides to pass on college , he needs to know that he can live at home but you expect him to pay rent. If he would prefer to live on his own, you will go with him to find an apartment and get him set up in his own place with everything he needs to survive on his own until his first paycheck comes in from the job that he is going to get . After two months, he can start paying you back this money because you have other things you want to do with it. Since college isn’t on his agenda , it’s time you were able to start doing things you planned on doing for yourself. He is now on his own.

Educational Choices

For the Undecided High School Student

There are so many good opportunities out there for young, bright, intelligent, career-minded individuals. With so much out there it is hard to know, as a High School Student, what career choices you may be interested in pursuing. In can be very difficult to make up your mind, and now you have to start looking at where you want to go to college. Take a look at some of these choices and then look around on-line on your own. The following Schools have some really unique characteristics in regards to beauty and location.

Pepperdine University located in Malibu, California. Is one of the all time favorites among adults. If you take a survey among adults, many would tell you the same thing, “If only I had known more about Pepperdine before I made any College Decisions.” Malibu offers numerous opportunities for the young students of Pepperdine and the University offers an education on one of the most beautiful College Campuses in the world.

University of Missouri located in Columbia, Missouri is the most All-American Midwestern campus you will find. Students can easily walk the campus and with nearby Stephens College and Columbia College, this is the all-around good times, good friends’ town!

University of Tennessee located in Knoxville, Tennessee is nothing like you have ever seen before if you are sports-oriented. You know you are in VOLS COUNTRY when you are within 90 miles of the campus. It is why Peyton Manning is still a legend here.

Virginia Tech located in Blacksburg, Virginia is in the middle of nowhere if you ask some of the locals. The scenery offers something more from a time long ago but the college is one of the best in Virginia. The Football Fans love their Vick and they aren’t talking about Big Brother!

University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California will speak for itself. If you love sports, you know the great names that have gone through USC, and you know of a few greats there now. It’s a school that still carries the occasional stigma, University of Spoiled Children! And isn’t that just special?

How did these 5 schools make this list? These are five schools that offer something really unique to offer students other than the outstanding education that all five provide.

Pepperdine will probably never be topped for beauty, you know you have arrived in a very special place from the moment you see it. In Columbia, Missouri you will be able to enjoy downtown within a few minutes walk of the University’s Campus and you will be able to walk the entire campus easily. Many students hop back and forth between the 3 Colleges in Columbia for many academic events with ease.

Knoxville, Tennessee is just fun. The Great Smoky Mountains is a ½ hour drive or less and it’s just beautiful. Virginia Tech allows students a quality education in a beautiful setting with real wholesome towns like Christiansburg right around the corner. Radford University isn’t far either. And Finally, USC, it‘s in Los Angeles, what more could you want?

Adults Returning To College.

It is the most exciting time in your life , for a moment. Then reality hits and you think to yourself, “What am I doing here”? It then becomes the best of times and the worst of times right at the moment you are about to step into your first class of the day ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY. Everyone in the classroom is young enough to be your daughter or son , and where you may have this class in common , that is the only similarity you share with these youngsters. These students were in school over the last 15 years, you haven’t been a student yourself, in well over 15 years.

You will doubt your reasons for wanting to return more times than you care to admit , but you didn’t finish school all of those years ago and now it is time to pay the piper. It will be a very fun, exciting time and give you the opportunity to learn and explore and sharpen your mind, but it will also be tough.

If you have children still at home, you will notice they are instantly “needy.” Your husband or wife will be more “needy.” In fact, everyone will be too NEEDY! So what, let them learn to do things for themselves. It won’t hurt your husband to run to Wal-Mart to pick up needed items and your teenager daughter can hand wash her sweater from GAP as easily as you can. It really isn’t the fact that your family will need you more, it is the fact that they will want to know you are there if they do. So they test you.

McDonalds and Burger King will no longer be their choice cuisine, they will want more home-cooked meals, too bad, it was MickieD’s before Mom went to college, and it can be the Golden Arches until Mom finishes. This time you can do it. It’s OK to let everyone else’s petty needs wait. Sure, there will still be times that a situation arises that your classes will have to be skipped, but very few if you plan ahead and let your husband and children know that you don’t expect major deviations from your school schedule.

It is harder to be an adult student than it is to be an 18 year old, still wet behind the ears, young pup. You have responsibilities to take care of at home. These classmates have a nice cold Keg awaiting them at yet another party. Your Children and Husband are waiting on you to come straight home after class. These kids don’t have any particular place to be.

You struggle to find the time to write your APA style papers, while these classmates
breeze into class and announce it took them all of a couple of hours to complete. It isn’t fair you think to yourself. Then , before you give way to a pity party , you think back to your younger years in college , oh sure it was the best of times , like no other time , but now you have a family to love and take care of……and they’re at home waiting on you.

After all, they are the reason you went back to school.

Self-Evaluation: Do More than Just “Fine!”

Every Sunday afternoon, just after a short nap, I browse on my diary and consequently make a schedule of activities for the coming week. As I sit on my chair, I can’t help but wonder how many other people around the world are doing the same thing. I guess I am not the only one doing that. Shelves of diaries of different designs, planners of all sizes and other tools intended for scheduling purposes, are available for everyone. Surely, the importance of proper planning cannot be underestimated.

But after all the properly managed scheduling, the greater challenge is yet to be encountered. Ever wondered how to keep track of your weekly improvement and maintain the attitude of keeping your way on the right direction? Here are some useful guidelines that you may want to answer for yourself to keep your toes on the ground, your steps synchronized with what you have in mind, and your activities triumphant.

• Did I attain my goals?
• What was my motivation in achieving these goals?
• What problems and obstacles came up along the way?
• How did I succeed over these problems?
• Was the time and effort I spent in reaching these aspirations well spent?
• While attaining the goals, were there other better opportunities that came by which may have been more fruitful for my sake?
• Did I gain more confidence upon achieving my aspirations?
• What aspirations did I not achieve?
• Why was I not able to attain the said goals?
• Generally speaking, can I literally say that the time and effort I devoted were focused on the more important matters as I planned them to be?
• Are there goals I was not able to pursue from previous weeks that I want to pursue this coming week?
• Was I able to take some time off from my daily routine to be alone and listen to my inner voice?
• Did I reflect about myself, refocus my attention, replenish my resources, and renew my spirit for the tasks to be done for the following week?
• What did I learn based on my experiences last week?
• Are my goals realistic?

Giving honest answers to these questions will help you evaluate your performance in a weekly basis. One may ask: “Why do I need to evaluate myself in such a very short interval of time?”

Through this type of assessment, we become more aware of our dev
